Trav Carter

"Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien

Trav’s first two international trips were polar opposites.  The summer after college, he took off on a solo backpacking through Europe.  In the world before the internet and Google maps, he wandered for 2 months without any reservations.  Starting in England and ending in Italy, he visited The Netherlands, France, Germany and Austria on the way.  Several years later, he and Judy honeymooned in France, on a trip planned by a professional travel agent.  Those different trips formed Trav’s philosophy about travel: Do homework and plan ahead so the trip goes smoothly, but leave room for the spontaneous moments that are often the highlight of a vacation.

With raising a family, Trav and Judy’s international travel was more limited.  When the children were in high school, he did take each of them on a “Dad trip” to Europe.  Even though he was not traveling as often during those years, he remained an avid reader about travel and the travel industry.  Once the kids went off to college, he and Judy started traveling more, often with their friends Drew and Gayle Huber.  When the destination had been decided, Judy and Gayle left it to Trav and Drew to arrange the flights, accommodations and other advanced reservations.  They quickly started to see food as a window into local culture.  Small guided food walks, cooking classes and wine tastings became a regular part of their trips

As Trav’s family and friends heard about his and Judy’s wonderful travel experiences, some of them started to ask for help planning their trips.  Using his experience to guide them on the important advanced work made their journeys smooth and enjoyable.  He has had consistent feedback about how the details he suggested made their travel easier, and for some timid travelers “less frightening”

About 10 years ago, Trav joined Lake Windward Travel as a part-time agent, booking cruises for family and friends.  Recently, Trav and Drew started their own travel agency, Go Explore Travel, LLC.  They are accredited by International Air Transport Association (IATA) and are members of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).

From land based itineraries to the world of ocean and river cruising, Trav would like to use his experience to create unforgettable memories for his clients.  Whether you are a first-time traveler or a seasoned traveler looking for your next adventure, Trav will help you plan every step. You can count on personalized itineraries tailored to your preferences, budget, and travel style.

Drew Huber

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." - St. Augustine

Drew is an admitted nerd about visiting ancient history sites.  He is fascinated by having a glimpse into the past while visiting buildings from ancient and medieval times.  His first trip out of the county was a high school graduation trip to Mexico.  After visiting the pyramids of Teotihuacan, his Spanish teacher took him and a friend to a little visited small pyramid outside Mexico City.  They spent the afternoon wandering the deserted site picking up pottery shards and small clay figurine heads dating from the 700-800s AD.  Visiting the Hagia Sofia, built in the time of the Roman Emperor Justinian, and later seeing the mosaics in Ravenna, Italy, dating from the same era, have been some of many highlights of his later travels.  (The photo is Drew standing on the Theodosian Roman wall in Istanbul, dating from the 5th century AD.)

A couple years before getting married, his family went to Europe in 1980, visiting 5 countries in 3 weeks.  Several years later, he and Gayle were able to spend three weeks in Italy.  For a year ahead of that trip, he would read travel guides and art books, and study the Michelin maps of Italy, planning that trip.  Since then, he has enjoyed planning trips almost as much as traveling.

Over time, Drew and Gayle are spending longer at destinations and their pace of travel has slowed.  While they still visit ancient sites, museums, churches and monuments, they enjoy walking around a city without any particular destination or timetable.  They enjoy visiting local markets and prefer eating at restaurants off the tourist track.  They often take small group food walks as a way to become familiar with a city and it’s culture.

Drew has organized and traveled with friends and family on two private charter Gulet sailboat cruises in Turkey.  He would be happy to help clients find the right cruise and/or land itinerary to fit their travel style and budget.
